I enjoy designing software for people who need technology to enhance their work, not get in the way of it. The process is the framework — the real work happens in the field, watching people do their jobs.
People use consumer software for joy or curiosity. They use operational software because they're on the clock. The kindness you can offer them is to be invisible — to let the moment of looking at the screen be the shortest part of their day.
